International Day of Older Persons observed in Sohphoh village
The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) in Jowai organized a program to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons at the Sohphoh Village Community Hall, West Jaintia Hills District, on October 14. The program was chaired by the village headman of Sohpoh Village, Mutshwa Thabah, with a welcome address from the village secretary.
District Social Welfare Officer Y Najiar, in her speech, focused on the theme “Ageing with Dignity,” emphasizing the vital roles that elderly men and women play in their families and the need to enhance the care and support systems for them.
The chief guest, Damechwa Dhar, highlighted the importance of caring for the elderly, particularly regarding their health and well-being. He underscored the theme, stressing the necessity of treating the elderly with dignity and providing them with essential support.
Dr. Y Sumer encouraged the elderly to visit their nearest local health centers for regular medical check-ups, emphasizing that “good health is wealth.” Dr. Sumer and his team conducted medical examinations for the elderly participants.
As part of the event, the office of the District Social Welfare distributed gifts to all elderly participants. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by E. S. Kyndait, Dealing Assistant of DSWO, Jowai.
