International Women’s Day celebrated in East Jaintia Hills
International Women’s Day was commemorated in East Jaintia Hills District with fervor on March 8, under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”. The event, organized by the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), NRLM, East Jaintia Hills District, took place at the Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat.
Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills District, Abhilash Baranwal, graced the event as Chief Guest, alongside Additional Deputy Commissioner & Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), East Jaintia Hills District, G Warjri and District Mission Manager of NRLM, East Jaintia Hills District, K Slong, among other government officials and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
In his address, Deputy Commissioner, Baranwal commended the invaluable contributions of women towards societal development and acknowledged the pivotal role played by the District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) in enhancing women’s economic empowerment. He emphasized that women are integral members of society and lauded their efforts in alleviating poverty and ensuring stable incomes for their families through the Self Help Group (SHG) movement. Additionally, Shri Baranwal underscored the importance of empowering women through functional literacy, especially for those who are not literate.
Further, Additional Deputy Commissioner & Project Director, DRDA, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri G. Warjri, highlighted the significance of the program in recognizing women’s contributions to societal development. He encouraged women to actively participate in various developmental activities.
Highlights of the event included a captivating performance by the Iainehskhem VO, Khliehriat West, and the screening of a video showcasing the impactful initiatives undertaken by MSRLS, East Jaintia Hills District.
