International Women’s Day celebration at Latyrke
International Women’s Day is globally celebrated and upholds women’s achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women’s rights and gender equality. It is a day that symbolizes the journey of women historically around the world.
It is no different for the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of East Jaintia Hills, to organized and celebrate this day at Community Hall, Latyrke village, East Jaintia Hills.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary DLSA, D. S. Marbaniang opened with a reminder on the origin of International Women’s Day and how it came to be celebrated annually. He said, “The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day theme is Choose to Challenge“. He also spoke about the role of Mahatma Gandhi’s wife as she was crucial and important to his realization of the power of the Non-Violence movement.
Others who spoke during the programme include M. War- Additional Public Prosecutor Khliehriat, R. War- Legal Aid Counsel(LAC), D Lyngdoh- Para Legal Volunteer(PLV), OSC Khliehriat, R. Malang- Local Headman Latyrke village, Apmon Pachiang- Local Headman Mollamylliang village, K. Suja- Local Headman Tangnup village, D. Huwa- Member of Shiborlang Group and S. Pdang who offered the vote of thanks.
A welcome song was presented by the students of Hold Infant Upper Primary School, Latyrke led by the Head Master, Shri. B. Sutnga.
