It is not responsibility of govt to bail out GHADC: Tynsong
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said it is not the responsibility of the state government to bail out the autonomous district councils (ADCs) from the financial crisis faced by them.
“If you are saying that (we) should bail out the crisis faced by the ADCs, I think that is not the responsibility of the state government to do that,” Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.
He however said the duty of the state government is to clear the outstanding dues related to the royalty share of the ADCs.
The deputy chief minister was responding to a query as to whether the state government would take measures to provide some relief to the employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), who are yet to receive their salaries for the past 30 months.
Stating that the ADCs are under the provision of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India and are separate entity altogether, Tynsong said, “Whatever revenue collected, it is being shared between the government and the district councils…so whatever outstandings that are there and yet to be cleared, that we are looking into and how to clear it at the earliest possible.”
