It will take 6-8 years for Meghalaya to host National Games: CM
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said it will take six to eight years for Meghalaya to host the National Games in the state.
“(This is because) there are three states before us which have not hosted the National Games. Even if we are ready with the infrastructure our chance will come maybe in the next 6-8 years,” Sangma said while replying to a supplementary query raised by opposition Congress legislator from Umsning Dr Celestine Lyngdoh on whether the national games was cancelled due to lack of infrastructure in the state. .
According to him, Goa is among the three states in the sequence order.
Sangma said it is not because of lack of infrastructure that the national games cannot take place in the state.
The chief minister however informed that the state is on a war footing to put up all necessary infrastructure for the hosting of the national games.
Earlier while replying to a query raised by Congress legislator from Nongstoin Gabriel Wahlang, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri said that the government has the intention to develop the sports infrastructure in the state.
“Lots of infrastructures have been constructed and we have submitted some more proposals to the central government but we are yet to receive the sanction,” Warjri informed.
