JAC meets DC, demands action on NH-6 road conditions
The Joint Action Committee, comprising members from the Eat Jaintia Hills Truck Owners and Transporters Association and the East Jaintia Hills Limestone Suppliers Owners Association, recently met with the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Shivansh Awasthi, IAS.
The discussion centered around the ongoing issue related to the condition of NH-6, particularly in the Elaka Narpuh area between Lumshnong and Malidor.
During the meeting, the JAC expressed concerns about the deteriorating state of NH-6 and emphasized the need for urgent repairs. They highlighted specific areas where the road surface and drainage systems required attention. The JAC urged the government at both the district and state levels to take necessary steps to address the situation promptly.
Furthermore, the JAC discussed legal aspects, including provisions from the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and the Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act, 1984.
They also referred to a ruling by the Meghalaya High Court dated March 31, 2023, which emphasized the importance of maintaining and repairing NH-6. The JAC called for immediate action to improve the road conditions and ensure the safety of commuters in the region.
