JAC threatens to intensify stir over failure of cement cos to implement new rates
Three transporter associations under the banner of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Monday sought the intervention of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma into the failure of the cement companies to implement the revised fare for heavy and medium goods vehicles.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, JAC vice chairman, Nehemayah Tyngkan informed that the chief minister has directed the deputy commissioner of East Jaintia Hills to convene a meeting with the cement companies and take necessary action to resolve the issue.
It may be mentioned here that cement and clinker carrying trucks have remained offroad due to the indefinite strike called by the JAC for the past 10 days.
JAC comprising of the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA), Jaintia Hills Clinkers & Cement Association (JHCCA) and Meghalaya Truckers Union (MTU)
Asked, Tyngkan said the JAC has decided to wait for the outcome of the meeting held between the DC and the cement companies before taking next course of action.
According to the government notification, the fare has been increased to Rs 9 per MT per kilometer for black topped road, Rs 10 for graveled road and Rs 12 for kutcha road.
He however said the rate given by the cement factories is only Rs 4. “Therefore, we are demanding that the cement companies should implement the rates fixed by the government,” he added.
Tyngkan further warned that the JAC will be compelled to intensify its agitation against the adamant attitude of the cement companies and that they will regret it.
“We understand that the cement companies are losing crore of rupees (due to the strike) and we will ensure that they surrender and comply with the government rate,” he said, while urging the public for their support and cooperation to the JAC.
