JAC withdraws indefinite road blockade on NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), which comprises 11 different villages situated along the NH-6 highway, has called off its indefinite road blockade after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) filled the large potholes from Tongseng to Malidor.
This decision to end the blockade was announced by the Chairman of the JAC and headman of Umkiang village, Lasting Pala, on the evening of June 22.
The indefinite road blockade had commenced on June 19 to pressurize the government and NHAI to repair the NH-6 highway, which had deteriorated severely, especially from Tongseng to Malidor in East Jaintia Hills.
Lasting Pala, while announcing the decision, stated that the JAC decided to withdraw the agitation because the government and NHAI had met their demand of filling the potholes from Tongseng to Malidor.
The JAC issued a stern warning to the government and NHAI, stating that they do not want to see any more potholes on this highway in the future. If such conditions are observed again, they will resume their indefinite blockade.
The Chairman expressed gratitude to all the residents of Namchiang area, the village leaders, and social organizations who supported the JAC in this agitation.
