James asks Opp AITC to do proper homework, says party is aware of its responsibilities
NPP leader and cabinet minister James K Sangma on Monday asked the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) to do its homework properly before accusing his party of failing to file its election expenditure report for the 2018 Assembly elections.
“I think they should go and do their homework. It would be good for people of that stature or that level of leadership to do their homework. Without doing their homework and giving statements like these it is very unprofessional,” Sangma told reporters.
He was reacting to the allegation made by AITC national spokesman Saket Gokhale that the National People’s Party had violated a Supreme Court order by failing to file its election expenditure report for the 2018 Assembly elections.
In his complaint submitted recently, Gokhale had urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to order a detailed inquiry into whether a show cause notice has been issued against the NPP and initiate immediate action.
When asked, Sangma completely denied the allegation and said his party has followed every rule that has been set by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
“We are very aware of our responsibility as an organization as to what we are supposed to do and not supposed to do and we are very careful about these compliances,” he added.
The AITC had also alleged the NPP for blatantly lying about the value of its land assets in their audit annual financial reports submitted to the ECI.
Gokhale had also threatened to flag the issue to the ECI by seeking an urgent probe into the huge disparity between the actual assets of the NPP versus what they have declared to the Election Commission.
