JEC NSS unit leads Road Safety Awareness Campaign on Khliehriat highway
A road safety awareness campaign was held on November 12, 2024, along the national highway at Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District. Organized by the NSS unit of Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, in collaboration with the local police department, the campaign aimed to raise awareness about road safety measures, promote safe driving habits, and educate drivers on the importance of responsible road behavior.
The program commenced with a rally led by the NSS volunteers of Jaintia Eastern College. Under the guidance of the college’s Principal Dr. P. Nongrdu, the NSS Programme Officers J Lyngdoh, S Myrchiang, and H. Lapasam, who are also assistant professors at the college marched alongside the volunteers. Starting from the college campus, the rally proceeded toward the highway at Khliehriat Market.
Throughout the rally, volunteers distributed informative pamphlets to drivers and passersby along the route. These pamphlets contained essential information on safe driving practices, the consequences of violating traffic rules, and the importance of being mindful of other road users.
This program also forms a part of the syllabus of the NSS subject in the Multi-Disciplinary class, aligning with the academic objectives of NEP 2020 by involving students in community service and awareness initiatives.
This initiative highlighted the commitment of Jaintia Eastern College, in collaboration with the police department, to improving road safety and fostering responsible attitudes among drivers. The support and involvement of the police department played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success, helping to reach and positively influence a large segment of the local community.
