JHADC comes up with Internal Audit Wing to protect from occurrence of fraud waste
With a view to establish an effective internal control mechanism in the Council to ensure compliance of Acts, Rules, Procedures, Policy of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), efficiency in functioning by each of the Department and also to protect the Council from occurrence of fraud waste of resources, JHADC Chief Executive Member Thombor Shiwat apprised the Executive Committee created an Internal Audit Wings to commence from April next under the leadership of Internal Audit Officer with four other staff to be deputed from the existing staff of the Council.
This was informed by Shiwat while presenting the budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the floor of the House on Thursday morning.
The Chief Executive Member said in order to minimize the expenditure and to decrease the strength of Staff the Executive Committee has abolished the Fishery and Agriculture Department and all duties and functions of the aforesaid Department has been merged with the Market Department.

He further said that in order to have sound and effective administration the Executive Committee has sanctioned two posts of Data Entry Operator in the Finance Department, two posts of Data Entry Operator in the Judicial Department and one LDA in Legislative Department, the same will be promoted or transferred from the existing staff of the Council.
Regarding the Development activities even though the Council do not have sufficient fund to carry on development works from its own Source of Revenue, Shiwat hoped with the funding of the Central Government through 15th Finance Commission they would be able to implement many important activities which can bring benefit to the people of the Jaintia Hills District.
The Chief Executive Member said the Executive Committee has put a budget provision of Rs. 1 crore for Minor Irrigation Project, Rs. 1 Crore for Development of Fisheries and Fish Sanctuary in Grant No 11 which would benefit the farmers of the region.
Taking into consideration on the richness and diversity of the culture combine with the natural scenic beauty of the region, Shiwat said the the Executive Committee also focus to promote Tourism the region with a view to uplift the economic status of the people of the region. A Budget Provision of Rs 1.75 Crore is earmarked for achieving the target in Art and Culture Department, he asserted.
