Jowai Blood Bank felicitates Voluntary Blood donors
Joining hands with the rest of the country, the Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank Centre, on the occasion of the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day felicitated the Voluntary Blood Donor organization in the conference room of the Blood Bank Centre.
Organised by Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre in collaboration with MACS and NHM Meghalaya on the theme, “Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity Joint Efforts and Save Lives”.
Dr. Rita Pohrmen, Medical Superintendent, Ialong Civil Hospital, Dr. Ramanand Prasad, Occupational Health Centre Dalmia Bharat Ltd, Dr. P. Shylla, Senior Doctor, Incharge Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre, Panaliar , Jowai and Blood Donors were present.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla acknowledged the act of generosity of the regular voluntary donors. Mentioning the importance of Blood and a need of having adequate supply of blood in the Blood Bank Centres, he encouraged more donors to join the good cause for the smooth flow supply in times of emergencies and casualties.
“I feel disheartened seeing such a grand programme being attended only by the Blood Donors and staff of Blood Bank Centre,” said Shylla.
He advised the Doctor Incharge to invite more people, school children and college students to educate them on the need of Blood donation. He added, there are still a lot of people who still lack the understanding of the importance of Blood and the purpose of donating blood. He also assured them of his support.
Dr. Pohrmen, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Ialong in her introductory speech thanked the donor and appreciated their selfless act. She added blood is the most important component of the body and timely transfusion can save many lives. Mentioning the need of having an adequate supply of blood in the Blood Bank Centres, Dr. Pohrmen encouraged them to continue the noble act of giving life.
Donating blood not only helps those in need but also keeps the donor healthy, added Dr. Pohrmen
NVBDD is observed every year on the 1st Oct to express gratitude to all the voluntary donors for their Humanitarian act, informed Dr. Pohrmen.
She further added, that on 17th September, 2022, the Jowai Blood Bank centre joined the country’s Mega voluntary Blood Donation Drive – Raktdean Amrit Mahotsav organising a Blood Donation drive and awareness program at WK Woodland Hospital, Sabamuwang.
Dr. P Shylla, incharge of Jowai Blood Centre thanked the donors for profusely supporting and rendering their service to the Blood Bank centre. Dr. Shylla through the power point presentation gave a gist on the service and activities rendered by the Blood Bank Centre and the total collection for each year.
In the year 2014 – collection 167 (67 Voluntary and 100 replacement), 2015- collection 338 ( 66 voluntary and 272 replacement), 2016 – collection 354 (103 voluntary and 251 replacement), 2017 – collection 696 (234 voluntary and 462 replacement), 2018 – collection 885 (219 voluntary and 666 replacement), 2019 – Collection 801 (185 voluntary and 616 replacement), 2020 – Collection 871 (244 voluntary and 627 replacement), 2021 – collection 1057 (290 voluntary and 767 replacement) and 2022 (till September) 1046 (331 voluntary and 715 replacement).
The staff of Blood Bank centre presented a beautiful meaningful song ‘ You have made a difference ‘.
The programme was chaired by Ianehskem Najiar, Data Entry Operator, Jowai Blood Bank and the Vote of thanks was offered by William Sumer, Lab Technician. ADIPR
