JOWAI: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking celebrated
The West Jaintia Hills District Police Force supported by the District Administration, West Jaintia Hills & Meghalaya Aids Control Society (MACS), Shillong observed International Day against Substance Abuse & illicit Trafficking in the Conference Room, SP’s office today.
Superintendent of Police Bikram Marak, MPS, in his few words highlighted on the purpose of the celebration and the effects of drugs. He also elaborated on the Theme, “Better Knowledge for better Cure” emphasizing on the need to have a better knowledge and understanding on the drugs problems and to have a determination to say No to drugs. He advised the students to refrain from all forms of drugs and not be misguided by their peer group. Encouraging the students he hopes that the painting presented will further enriched their knowledge and minds and make them more responsible persons in life.
Bijay Chettri, Additional SP, D.Moksha, Sub Divisional Officer,Amlarem and A.Kharkongor, Assistant Director IEC, Meghalaya Aids Control Society, Shillong also spoke on the menace and negative effects of drugs.
To mark the celebration, a week long programme was organized by the office of the Superintendent of Police which started from 15th June, 2020 with a drawing competition for school students of the District from Class VII to Class X on the Theme, ‘Drug Abuse and Effects of Drugs’, where students were asked to submit their drawing to the nearest Police Station or Beat House, awareness programme on Drugs Abuse was also conducted at Jowai Police Station, Amlarem Police Station and Phramer Traffic Cell by the respective Officer incharge to the Police Personnel and the Public at their respective Thana.
During the campaign to fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking the office of the West Jaintia Hills District Executive Force had launched a video on the Anti Narcotic Task Force to combat against drugs in the District.
Certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the first, second and third prize winners and 10 consolation . Certifications of appreciation were given to all other 33 participants.
Smt. S. Mukerjee gave the vote of thanks while Smt. C.W Lyngdoh chaired the programme.
