Jowai short video ‘Eñ Khnam’ bagged first prize at SCSTE Meghalaya short video competition
The celebration of Vgyan Sarvatra Pujyate and National Science Day Celebration organized by the State Council of Science Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, Shillong came to a close today at the All Saint Hall Shillong. The theme of the celebration which also includes giving away of meritorious awards to students of SSLC and HSSLC, Meghalaya Board of School Education 2021 Examination is “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future.” Different literary competitions and competition of innovative ideas was also organized for the students of the city as part of the celebration.
In the second session which is also the concluding part of celebration, prizes were also distributed to the winners of the short video competition organized by the council in the last part of 2021. The competition was organized in two categories, professional and amateur. The theme for the short video competition this year is “Indigenous Technologies of Meghalaya” and it was supported by the Planning Department, Govt. of Meghalaya.

The winner of the amateur video competition were Ashish Jatiani and the name of the video is Living Root Bridge, second prise was bagged by Banteilang Syiem and the name of the video is Millet Story and the third prize was awarded to Medarisha Marbaniang with a video by the name 12th Mer Craftmen. Consolation prizes were also awarded to Mewanshwa Nongrum for the video title Jingkiengjri, Kubot Diengdoh for his video Fly Killer and Dathewborlang Lyngdoh’ video is Garbage.

In the Professional category first prize was bagged by the team under Dr HH Mohrmen which includes Habandajop Lyngdoh, Melanie Passah and Nehipaia Phawa. The name of the video is Eñ Khnam and Second prize goes to Sonu K. Sangma with a video title Jam Nok and the winner of the third prize was Nikseng K. Sangma and his video’s name is Jhum Cultivation.
In his concluding remark Dr. Aseem Sinha one of the judges in the competition lauded the participants for the videos that they have made. He said that the competition has been able to bring to light some of the indigenous knowledge which would not have seen the light of the day, had it not been for the competition. He said that there are still a lot of this indigenous knowledge practices by the different communities in the state and he encouraged the students to also try document these rich treasures before they vanished.
