Jowai unveils first sport climbing wall for 6th Meghalaya Games
Jowai now boasts its first-ever sport climbing wall, marking a new milestone in the state’s sports history. The wall, which serves as a venue for the 6th Meghalaya Games, was inaugurated on Monday by local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla. Also present were MOSA Working President John Kharsiing and Director of Sports & Youth Affairs, DD Shira, and among others.
“This is a momentous occasion that will be remembered for years to come,” Shylla stated. He highlighted the unique topography of Meghalaya, making it an ideal location for climbing, and expressed gratitude to the state government for their support.
Head Coach Wallambok Langdoh emphasized the journey and dedication of local climbers, “Despite limited facilities, our climbers have trained with the Indian Army in Shillong, Assam, and at the Gorkha training center. Their dedication has resulted in medals at zonal and national levels. The introduction of this climbing wall is a significant step forward and promises to foster new talent and bring more recognition to our region.”
The new climbing wall promises to attract climbers and foster new talent, with hopes of making Meghalaya a sports powerhouse.
