JSM demand speeding up of establishing BOP in Mukroh Village
Countering over the claim of ownership of Mukroh village by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) Central Body on Thursday asked the MDA 2.0 Govt to speed up the process of establishing the Border Outpost (BOP) at the Zero Point location in Mukroh Village, West Jaintia Hills District as desired by the Dorbar Shnong Mukroh.
The JSM made the demand in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District for forwarding to the Meghalaya Chief Minister.
The decision was taken in an emergent online meeting of the Executive Committee of the Jaintia Students Movement held meeting on Monday.
The meeting vehemently condemned the Assam Chief Minister who declared in the Assam Assembly that Mukroh belonged to Assam and not Meghalaya.
The memorandum said that the meeting viewed the declaration by Assam Chief Minister as an impending threat to the lives and security of the people of Mukroh village.
The JSM reminded that Meghalaya Cabinet on November 29, 2022 decided to set up border outposts (BOP) in Mooriap BOP, East Jaintia Hills, Mukroh BOP and Tihwieh BOP West Jaintia Hills, Rani-Jirang BOP in Ri-Bhoi, Umwali BOP, Lejadubi BOP and Langpih BOP in West Khasi Hills.
The decision was taken following the death of six persons including five from Meghalaya and one Assam Forest Guard were killed in a firing incident in Mukroh.
However the BOP in Mukroh Village and other areas are yet to see the light of the day till date, the JSM pointed the Assam Government already set up a Forest Beat Office within the jurisdiction of Mukroh Village.
