JSU ask houseowners to waive off rent of poor students
The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) Shillong Circle on Tuesday urged all houseowners of Shillong to consider the plight faced by their tenants particular students coming from poor families, due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
JSU Shillong Circle president Treiborlang R Suchen in a statement issued here said that the union are concern about students from rural areas and are studying in Shillong due to the lockdown.
He said, currently, there are poor students who are facing great financial problems because their parents are not getting daily wage regularly owing to this present crisis.
“Therefore, the Union would like to appeal to all houseowners in Shillong to consider waiving the house rent to poor students,” Suchen said.
In order to prevent school and college drop-out in the state, he suggested the state government should not only exempt school fees but college fees as well particularly for students from the poor economic backgrounds.
