JSU demands deployment of adequate security forces in the border
SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has demanded the state government to take adequate measures to ensure safety of people living along the international border following incidents of intrusion and attack by Bangladeshi miscreants on civilians.
A delegation of JSU on Wednesday met the home minister James K Sangma requesting for his immediate intervention into the need to increase the manpower of armed policemen and BSF personnel at Dawki police station and Muktapur.
After the meeting, spokesperson of the JSU Treiborlang Suchen told reporters that the delegation has also demanded the government to order the BSF to provide relentless patrolling and keep strict vigilance and conduct a thorough checking at the border roads and national highway from Dawki to Nongtalang and to Muktapur.
Suchen informed that the home minister has assured the delegation to ensure that patrolling by the security forces is intensified as a short term measure.
“He (James) also requested for land to set up the anti-dacoity camp in the area,” he said.
The delegation also condemned the inaction of the police department and the BSF on the complaints filed by the people of Bakur and Dawki area against the infiltration of Bangladeshis into the area.
“We condemned the police and the BSF for failing to protect the people residing at the border. Bangladeshis are illegally entering the Indian territory without fear due to lack of security forces deployed at the border,” headman of Bakur Daniel Khongsit said.
Khongsit also asserted the need to have a joint operation between the state police and the BSF in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
