JSU oppose Synjuk’s demand to shift PWD-ND to Shangpung
The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has opposed the demand of the Synjuk Ki Dorbar Shnong Shangpung to shift the PWD North Division from Jowai, a district headquarter to Shangpung village in West Jaintia Hills.
“We condemned the Synjuk for making such a groundless demand,” JSU central body president Lawyerson War said in a statement issued here on Saturday.
On the claim of the Synjuk that the Division is looking only after the Laskein block, War however said would this mean that the head office will have to be shifted to Shangpung, where the PWD sub-division office is also located at present?.
“Where will such demand to shift head offices from the district headquarters take us. This will only create unnecessary problems in the functioning of the department which include Superintendent Engineer, Treasury and others,” he said.
War also said that the claim of the Synjuk that shifting of the Division will decongest the Jowai town is also unacceptable. “If it really helps in decongesting the town, the JSU would have been the first to make this demand without waiting for the Synjuk,” he said.
Meanwhile, the JSU demanded that the state government should not consider the demand of the Synjuk as it only benefits a few vested interests, War said.
