JSU serves a 1-week deadline to Govt to provide ambulance service in Amlarem CSD
The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) on Thursday served a one-week ultimatum to the state authorities to provide a 108 ambulance for catering to the medical emergency needs of the people under the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division in West Jaintia Hills District.
A memorandum on this regard was submitted to the Health Minister AL Hek, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War and Chief Operating Officer of GVK EMRI 108 Deepankar Choudhury for their necessary intervention into the matter.
“(We) have served a one-week ultimatum to the authorities concerned demanding the immediate sanctioning of a 108 ambulance for station at Nongtalang CHC in order to cater to the medical emergency services in the Amlarem civil sub-division,” JSU War Jaintia Circle president Eddy Kery Pohtam said in a statement issued today.
Pohtam also threatened that the Union will be left with no option but to take stern action if the authorities concerned fail to comply with the demand.
According to him, the ambulance vehicle which used to station at Nongtalang CHC was removed in 2014 and till date there has been no replacement given for the civil sub division.
“The non-availability of the ambulance service under the civil sub-division is a great loss to the people especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
The Union has also sought the intervention of the SDO of Amlarem Abhilash Baranwal into the matter and to extend all possible help to the people during times of emergency.
Meanwhile, the JSU War Jaintia Circle also condemned the local MLA for his alleged inaction to address the hardships faced by the people due to absence of an ambulance service despite several requests made before him.
