JYF demands adequate supply of essential commodities in Saipung and adjoining villages
The Saipung Circle of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) on Wednesday requested the district administration of East Jaintia Hills to provide adequate supply of essential commodities to the people of the region besides setting up more selling counters to avoid overcrowding.
JYF-SC president Oswald B Nampui in a statement issued here said that the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) East Jaintia Hills District has come about with the alternative arrangement of providing essential commodities to the general public of Saipung and the other adjoining villages by setting up sales point at Saipung village.
The selling of the commodities was successful maintaining the much to be followed precedure by the government of 1 metre distance.
He however said it is a matter of great relief but unfortunately it has engaged only two sales agents and hence even 30% of the essential commodities requirement of the general public could not be met.
“In this critical situation (we) urge the district administration of East Jaintia Hills to provide more of essential commodities as per need of the people keeping in view the loose rice to be made available and not just in bags,” Nampui said.
He also urge the district administration to setup more selling counters because those villages coming as far as Mualsei and the adjoining villages lamented that they are not getting enough to buy the essential commodities as it had already run out of stock when their turn come after standing in the long queue.
The president further suggested the need to shift the outlet to Thuruk Village being the centre as that would serve the need of more than six villages surrounding Thuruk.
“The JYF Saipung Circle also requested the district administration to make necessary arrangements to engage more shops/sales point so as to enable the public who come to take their basic necessities go back home with their minimal requirements,” Nampui added.
