Kerala Blasters FC defeats Shillong Lajong 3-1 in Kalinga Super Cup Opener
Shillong Lajong suffered a loss against Kerala Blasters FC by 3-1 in their opening match of the Kalinga Super Cup held on Wednesday at the Kalinga Stadium Pitch 1, Bhubaneswar.
Lajong started off well but could not convert and their wasted opportunity haunted them back as it was Kerala Blasters who took the lead in the 15th minute through their Ghanaian forward Kwame Peprah. It was not long as Kerala doubled doubled their lead and this time once again it was Kwame with his second goal in the 27th minute.
Shillong Lajong pulled one back through a penalty converted by their captain Renan Paulino De Souza in the 29th minute after Karim Samb was fouled inside the box by the Kerala goalkeeper Sachin Suresh. It was Kerala Blasters who took the lead by 2-1 at half-time.
Going into the second half, Kerala Blasters started off well and doubled their lead in the 46th minute through Mohammed Aimen. The current leaders in the ISL ended the match with a 3-1 victory and collected all 3 points.
With this defeat Shillong Lajong will now shift their focus to the next game which is also a highly anticipated ‘North-East Derby ‘ against North-East United FC on Monday, 15th of January at 2pm in the Kalinga Stadium Pitch 1, Bhubaneswar.
