KHADC opposes illegal encroachment by Assam govt in Khanapara
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday opposed the illegal encroachment of the Assam government by construction of a three-storey building at Khanapara in Ri Bhoi district.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the executive committee, KHADC chief, Titosstar Chyne said Assam has constructed a police transit camp on a land which falls within the jurisdiction of the Raid Marwet under the Hima Mylliem Syiemship.
“Taking strong cognizance of the matter, we have decided to immediately summon the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and the Syiem of Raid Marwet for explanation on the illegal structure,” he said.
Chyne also informed that the EC is not aware of whether NOC was obtained from the traditional institution.
Asked if the KHADC would write to the Assam government for stopping the illegal construction, the KHADC chief said, “We will take a call after getting all details on the matter.”
Meanwhile, the EC has also sought a detailed report into the illegal construction of a bridge by the Assam government at Balakhwa under the Hima Nongspung.
According to Chyne, the construction of the bridge was earlier stopped but now work has again resumed and is nearing completion.
Chyne said the Syiem of Hima Nongspung will also be summoned by the Elaka department on the matter.
