The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Friday passed a Rs 50,910 deficit budget for the financial year 2020-21.
The budget estimate was at Rs 243, 72,89,930 which is higher than the council’s revenue receipts at Rs 243, 72,39,020.
Earlier while replying to the discussion on the budget, KHADC chief Titosstar Chyne informed that the executive committee has decided to support the Khasi Author Society to come up with a Khasi dictionary.
He said the Council had also passed a resolution to urge the Centre to include the Khasi language in the Eight Schedule. “We will follow up the issue and ensure the Centre considers the demand,” Chyne said.
The CEM informed that the council is also proposing to again organize the Monolith Festival to showcase the rich culture and tradition of the indigenous people. “However, we have decided not to spend from the council’s fund but will try to generate from other sources,” he said.
Asserting the need to strengthen the judiciary, Chyne said that the district council courts will soon be inaugurated at Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills and Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi.
He further informed that a committee has been constituted to come up with the new service rules. “We have asked the committee to complete the exercise within two months,” Chyne said.
The KHADC chief also warned stern action against employees who never attend duty. “We have asked for a list of such employees and stern action will be taken,” he said.
