KHADC pays rich tribute to Rev JJM Nichols Roy – father of the Sixth Schedule on his 65th death anniv
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Friday paid rich tribute to Rev JJM Nichols Roy – the father of the Sixth Schedule – on his 65th death anniversary.
KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem along with his executive committee laid floral wreaths in front of the monument of Rev JJM Nichols Roy, which is located at the heart of the council’s premises during a function organized jointly with the JJM Nichols-Roy Memorial Committee and the JJM Nicholas-Roy College.
Addressing the occasion, Pyniaid Sing Syiem said it was Rev JJM Nichols Roy who took part in the drafting of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and it was in 1952 that the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) were established in India.
Syiem informed that till date there are 10 ADCs in the entire North East region which aims to protect the indigenous communities.
“In the past other ADCs of the North East did not know about JJM Nicholas-Roy but through the measures taken by the KHADC, now even other ADCs have recognized JJM Nicholas-Roy as one of the greats of the country” said Syiem.
Syiem said that the Tripura Territorial Council had proposed to erect a monument of Rev JJM Nichos Roy in Agartala.
