KHADC ready to construct a police outpost at Langpih
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to construct the infrastructure for a police outpost at Langpih in West Khasi Hills along the inter-state border with Assam.
“We will construct the police outpost at Langpih from the council fund. I will also consult with the deputy CEM in-charge of Finance on the matter,” Council’s chief executive member (CEM) Titosstar Chyne told the House on Thursday.
Chyne was replying to a motion moved by opposition Congress MDC from Rambrai-Jyrngam Bajop Pyngrope to discuss on the steps taken by the executive committee (EC) for the welfare of the people in different villages along the inter-state border.
The CEM said that his EC will also take up more developmental activities to increase the council assets under its jurisdiction along the inter-state border.
While raising the issue, Pyngrope has slammed the state government for constructing a road to Langpih only after the firing incident which killed 4 persons.
Stating that the demand for setting up of a police outpost is still pending, the MDC said the district police chief has already submitted a proposal to the state government as land is already available.
“However, the state government has informed that fund is not available for the setting up of the police outpost due to the COVID-19 pandemic,: he said.
In view of this, Pyngrope urged the executive committee to sanction necessary fund for construction of the police outpost.
“This will not only ensure safety and security but will to a great extent empower the people residing along the inter-state border,” he said.
