KHADC seeks cooperation of non-tribal vendors
SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought the cooperation of the non-tribal traders to obtain vending license from the Council.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, executive member in-charge Trade Paul Lyngdoh said that the council has decided to regulate the trade of street vending as is being done in the case of other trades.
He said a public notice was also issued on October 4, prohibiting hawking by non-tribal traders without any trade license.
Lyngdoh said one of the major reasons that led the Council to come to this decision is the fact that mushrooming of street vendors has added a new dimension to city of Shillong which is lack of public space and threat to public safety and public health because of the unorganized way this trade has been allowed to grow.
“Keeping that in mind, the council has come up with this public notice, and now we seek the full cooperation and compliance of all non tribal vendors who are legally bound to first apply for and obtained licenses from the trade department of KHADC,” he said.
According to him, as per the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulations, they have to register their businesses and apply for vending licenses from the council.
He added you will appreciate the fact that as far as licensees are concern, there is large number of non tribals who have legally obtained licenses from district council and has been renewing their licenses.
