KHADC seeks time to confirm on two offending buildings along Umiam lake
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought time to confirm whether the two buildings constructed along the Umiam lake are in accordance with law.
In its order passed while hearing a PIL on Monday, the two-member bench of the Meghalaya High Court said that affidavits have been filed by the added respondents – Philosopher Iawphniaw and Banalari Khongwar – seeking to justify the constructions put up.
The order however said the KHADC, the immediate authority which can confirm whether the buildings erected by the respondents are in accordance with the existing law or the norms in such regard, seeks time.
“The matter will appear on October 20, 2022. It is hoped that the KHADC does not seek any further time and indicates its clear stand to the Court as to the legitimacy or otherwise of the two offending buildings,” the bench directed.
It may be mentioned here that added respondents, Philosopher Iawphniaw and Banalari Khongwar, were issued notices for illegal and unauthorized construction works along the Umiam Lake.
