KHADC submits comprehensive report on border issue to Govt
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday submitted a comprehensive report prepared by its boundary committee to the state government.
It strongly recommended that villages and areas included in the AD Rules, 1952 should be the basis for ending the age-old boundary dispute with Assam.
The report was handed over by the KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma during a consultative meeting held to discuss the interstate boundary issue.
Speaking to media persons, Chyne said, “The boundary committee of the KHADC has handed over a comprehensive report to the state government through the chief minister.”
He said the report includes recommendations, sanad (appointment of chiefs), notifications, documents and maps submitted by all the Himas.
When asked, the KHADC chief said that the report has recommended that the state government should consider according to the paragraph 20 of the Sixth Schedule which means “all the villages and areas which already include in the appendix of the AD rules, 1952 should be the terms and reference for discussing and to prove ourselves that these areas belongs to Meghalaya.”
