KHADC tables Rs 50,910 deficit budget
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday tabled a Rs 50,910 deficit budget for the financial year 2020-21.
“There is a deficit in the budget estimate since the proposed expenditure at Rs 243, 72,89,930 is higher than the council’s revenue receipts which is at Rs 243, 72,39,020,” Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy.CEM) Gigur Myrthong said while presenting the budget during the Budget session
Myrthong however assured the house that the executive committee (EC) will try its best to find out ways and means to improve the revenue collection of the Council.
He informed that the Centre has so far released Rs 27.60 crore as grant under the Excluded Areas under Part IX & IX A of the Constitution of India for the financial year 2019-2020.
According to him, the amount was mainly utilise for providing relief to the people who are affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We therefore, hope that the Centre will also consider releasing the pending amount at the earliest so that the council can further mitigate the hardships faced by the people of the region,” Myrthong said.
He informed that Rs 1 crore was sanctioned to each of the 30 members from the grant received in 2018-2019.
He said the council was able to complete the additional building, construction of the branch office at Mawkyrwat and district council court at Nongstoin from the grant sanctioned during 2017-2018.
Meanwhile, the budget allocation will help in disbursing the salaries of members of the council, chairperson, deputy chairman, leader of opposition, executive members (EMs), officers and staffs of the different departments (executive, legislative and judicial) of the Council.
