KHADC urges Govt to seek views and opinion of stakeholders before implementation of MSIPFA, 2024
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Thursday passed a resolution urging the state government to seek views and opinions of stakeholders before implementation of the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Act, 2024.
While tabling the resolution, KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem said, “The proposed amendment to the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Act, 2024 which allow the IMA to purchase land and allot to the Investor will come into conflict with several provision of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Regulation and Administration of Land) Act, 2021 and will affect the sentiments of the general public at large.”
“Therefore, this House do now resolved to urge upon the government of Meghalaya to seek views and opinions through consultation with the council and various stakeholders before the implementation of the aforesaid Act,” he stated.
Syiem also pointed out that the Khasi Land Tenure System prevailing in the Dorbar Shnong, Dorbar Raid, Dorbar Hima is an ideal practice which has preserved the socio-cultural ethos of the Khasi community.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, as mandated under the provision of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, is to protect and preserve the Khasi land tenure system within its jurisdiction. The Khasi traditional tribal institution plays a pivotal role to protect the custom, usages and the land tenure system of the Khasi community.
