Kharlukhi files nomination for election to lone Rajya Sabha seat
National People’s Party (NPP) state president Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi on Thursday filed his nomination papers as the MDA candidate for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat, slated for March 26.
Kharlukhi was accompanied by deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong, PWD (building) minister Comingone Ymbon, BJP leader Sanbor Shullai, Independent MLA Lambor Malngiang and other MLAs during the filing of nomination at the Assembly Secretariat at Khyndailad.
However, it was seen that some of the leaders from the different coalition partners were not present.
When asked, Tynsong however said that everyone except the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) accompanied Kharlukhi. He said that PDF leaders have informed their inability to attend due to the all party meeting that was taking place at the same time.
Expressing confidence that Kharlukhi will win the election, the deputy chief minister also urged the Congress to also extend its support to the MDA candidate.
“We are intact and we expect that the Congress will not even file the nominations,” Tynsong said.
Asked, the NPP leader said the MDA government is against the Citizenship Amendment Act and will continue to oppose its implementation.
Meanwhile, the candidate of opposition Congress and former MLA Kennedy Khyriem will be filing his nomination for the election on Friday.
