Kharlukhi raise voice for inclusion of Khasi, Garo in 8th Schedule in parliament
Rajya Sabha MP and National People Party (NPP) state President Dr WR Kharlukhi raise voice for the inclusion of Khasi & Garo Languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution on the floor of Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Dr Kharlukhi said “My state has already celebrated the 50 years of statehood on January 21, but the sad part is despite repeated demand of the people and the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Assembly for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution nothing was done in this regard.”
He urged Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to impress upon the government to include Khasi and Garo Languages in the 8th Schedule.
Taking to facebook, James PK Sangma said “It was a landmark moment for Meghalaya in the Parliament today as our Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi raised the topic for inclusion of Khasi & Garo Languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.”
With our State turning 50 this year, it remains to be one of our most significant long-term demands. We will continue to raise important issues concerning our people & their rights.”
