Khliehriat Civil Hospital gets state of the art medical facilities
In a landmark development, the 100-bed Civil Hospital in Khliehriat has undergone significant upgrades, addressing long-standing criticisms and operational shortcomings. The hospital is now equipped with advanced machines and equipment, marking a new era in healthcare services for the region.
The new equipment was inaugurated on Friday, attended by cabinet minister and MLA of Khliehriat, Kyrmen Shylla and MLA of Sutnga Saipung, Santa Mary Shylla. Also present were Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Abhilash Baranwal IAS and other health officials.
State-of-the-Art Equipment
The hospital has been furnished with cutting-edge equipment, significantly enhancing its medical capabilities:
Modern Laboratory: The laboratory now boasts 11 advanced machines. These additions elevate the facility to a standard comparable to any top hospital in Meghalaya, enabling the conduct of over 142 diagnostic tests.
Digital X-Ray Machines: Acquired through the District Administration’s initiative under the CSR of HDFC Foundation, the new digital X-ray machine is one of the most advanced in Meghalaya, ensuring superior imaging and diagnostic accuracy.
Video Endoscopy System: Also procured under the CSR initiative of HDFC Foundation, this modern video endoscopy system features advanced imaging capabilities, significantly enhancing ENT care within the district.
Ambulance: Funded by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) through the District Administration, the new ambulance expands the hospital’s referral services to Shillong and Guwahati, a substantial improvement from the previous limitation to Jowai.
Mechanized Washer Extractor: Provided by the NETC CSR initiative, this equipment will greatly improve the hospital’s infection control measures.
Conference Hall: Established by the Health Department using their own funds, the new conference hall will serve as a crucial venue for staff training and coordination.
It may be mentioned that the hospital was officially upgraded on February 14, 2022, by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. Although the hospital’s construction was completed in 2013 and posts were sanctioned in 2014, it has faced considerable criticism over the years. Various pressure groups have protested its status as a mere Community Health Center (CHC), lamenting its lack of upgrades and adequate equipment to deliver quality healthcare services.
For the past two years since its official upgradation as civil hospital, these groups have been vocal in demanding improvements. The recent enhancements are seen as a direct response to these concerns, aiming to provide the high standard of medical care that the region’s residents deserve.
The comprehensive upgrade of the hospital’s facilities is expected to significantly impact healthcare delivery in East Jaintia Hills District. With the new equipment, the hospital is now better equipped to handle a wide range of medical conditions, ensuring timely and effective treatment for the community.
Local residents and healthcare professionals have welcomed the improvements, expressing hope that the upgraded facilities will lead to better health outcomes and increased accessibility to advanced medical care. The enhancements also signify a major step forward in the region’s healthcare infrastructure, promising a brighter future for medical services in Khliehriat and beyond.
