Khliehriat EJH: A rally for Safe Driving Habits
The East Jaintia Hills District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Office of the Superintendent of Police, and Office of the District Transport Officer, organized a car rally on the theme “Safe Driving Habits”, on Saturday.
The rally was flagged off by Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary DLSA Khliehriat- D.S. Marbaniang and IAS, Deputy Commissioner (EJH)- E. Kharmalki which started from Destination Hotel, Mookhep to Byndihati and back to Khliehriat Higher Secondary School.
The CJM-DLSA said, “Let us inculcate this habit of good and safe driving, to drive responsible and to be responsible for the other person who is driving towards you”. He gave brief statistics of 2018 where more than 600 accidents, crashes and fatalities occurred in the states.
The other speakers were Motor Vehicle Inspector (EJH) F. Shadap, Deputy Superintendent of Police JS Mairom, Dr D. Shylla, District Medical and Health Officers, East Jaintia Hills District, J. Tariang, EE, PWD (Roads), NEC Khliehriat and D Diengdoh, Vice Principal, Jaintia Eastern College.
They highlighted the road safety measures, urged all the drivers to follow the traffic rules including signals, to prevent the use of led light bulbs, to remove tinted films from their vehicles as it is banned by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, to always wear helmets and seat belts, obeying traffic rules and police signal.
After the rally, an awareness programme on “Safe Driving Habits” was held at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School Campus which begins with the Theme Song of the programme performed by Eladmitre Dkhar.
The participants of the rally include Jaintia Cycling Forum Jowai, Little Star School, Jaintia Eastern College, Riders Tribe from Rymbai, Tuber Bikers and Tours Association, EJAMSA Khliehriat, Cement Plants of East Jaintia Hills District, Lad Rymbai Indica Association, East Jaintia Taxi Owner and Drive Association, East Jaintia Hills District Tourist Taxi Association and Friends Ride from Jowai.
During the programme prizes, certificate and awards were also distributed to the winner’s Slogan and Essay competition. The other highlights of the programme include free medical eye check-up carried out by Bansara EyeCare Centre, Shillong.
