KHNAM demands govt to do away with personal interview in job recruitment process
SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has strongly objected the decision of the Community & Rural Development (C&RD) department to include only the ‘personal interview’ as a selection process for job recruitment in the department.
It has also demanded the state government to do away with the personal interview in order to eliminate corruption in the government’s job recruitment.
In a memorandum to the Director of C&RD department here on Tuesday, the KHNAM state youth wing has also demanded that the advertisement be changed and selection procedures be changed to only ‘written test’.
This came after the Directorate of C&RD has notified an advertisement inviting application from genuine citizen of India who are desirous to apply for recruitment to the post of in the Directorate with the last date for submission of application is November 28, and total number of vacancy as 6.
“This memorandum is to place our strong objection for making only the personal interview as the only selection procedure for selection of candidate(s) for the subject post and we demand that the advertisement be change and selection procedures be change to only “Written Test” failing which it will make it clear that back-door entry and nepotism is being attempted by the Department and the Government,” president of the KHNAM state youth wing Thomas Passah said in the memorandum.
He said in this generation of unemployment, we are seeing a large interest amongst the youth, where lakh of application are being submitted whenever a new job vacancy is posted by the Government.
He said however, appointment on nepotism and corruption have demoralise the spirit of the young citizen, where everyone try to run for recommendation and other means to secure the job. This practice is highly irregular and bad for the prosperity of the State at large.
According to him, it is very clear, that personal interview is the main factors that facilitate corruption and nepotism and particularly help the poor who would normally fall prey to brokers, and creates opportunity for the powerful, corrupted government official and politicians.
“With respect to the decision of the department to include only the “Personal Interview’ as a selection process for the subject post, is highly questionable. How can the department judge a person in just a minute during the personal interview whether he/she is fit or not for the job? Even a physiologist cannot evaluate a person during an interview of one or two minutes, how can a Government official do it in a lesser time then that? Actually interview is required only where personality or appearance is important,” Passah said.
Meanwhile, the KHNAM state youth wing has also sought the intervention of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on the matter and suggested for change in the selection process for appointment of Group D, C post in State Government by doing away with the personal interview in order to eliminate corruption.
“The Central Government has implemented the same since 2016 and for the betterment of the state of the youth similar steps needs to be followed,” Passah said.
