KHNAM opposes move to appoint Agatha as MSCPCR chairperson
The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has expressed strong opposition against the alleged move to appoint Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s sister and former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma as chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR).
“The Party expresses its opposition in open display of political power by the MDA Government,” KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said in a statement on Saturday.
“Appointment of Advisors, Chairman, Vice Chairmans etc at the expense of the exchequer has alread cought the lime lights to which the general public have express concern and dissatisfaction. Now with this latest appointment it seem clear that the MDA Government is all out for nepotism and political appointment just to ensure to forcefully hold on to power. This is total dictatorship,” he said.
Further, Passah said, “We are also surprise to know that James Sangma is also the key person in this decision where in he has submitted a written proposal to the Government, now how can a general public have any say in government decision. We know that other political parties who are in the MDA will not object to such nepotism since they too have their share of political appointments.”
Stating that as per the Government notification dated 10 July 2013 it clearly states that “A Chairperson should be a person of eminence and who has done outstanding work for promoting welfare of children”, Passah said, “We do not see that Agatha Sangma qualifies for the appointment. We also fell thats such appointment will jeopardize the welfare of Children in the state.”
