KHNAM MLA asks govt to take prompt action on wedding incident
The lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator from North Shillong, Adlelbert Nongrum has demanded the state government to take prompt action against all the wedding attendees, who have violated the COVID-19 protocols recently.
“Prompt action by the government on the matter and proper follow up of the FIR will be highly appreciated,” Nongrum said in a letter to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday.
He also suggested that “it would be in the fitness of things for the sake of public safety, the government should exercise all its wisdom…even to the extent of acquiring the video clips of the wedding, to trace the invitees.”
Referring to the statement of the health minister AL Hek that a total of 43 people had attended the wedding at Khanapara and not 41, the MLA said that additional FIR should be filed by the Deputy Commissioner against the other two people.
“I would like to draw the attention of the government to the concern and anxiety of the general public on the FIR which is expected to be filed by the DC against the six people relating to the wedding incident…,” he said.
Earlier, the DC had filed an FIR against 35 people from the wedding party for violating the COVID-19 protocols.
