Kiang Nangbah Government College leads SWAYAM course integration workshop

Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai, in collaboration with SWAYAM MOOCs NEHU, Shillong, orchestrated a groundbreaking One-Day Workshop on the “Implementation of SWAYAM Courses” on April 23, in the college Multipurpose Hall. Spearheaded by the IQAC and NEP/CUET/NCTE Cell, this initiative aimed to revolutionize education by harnessing the SWAYAM MOOCs platform, developed by the Ministry of Education, India, and NPTEL, specifically targeting higher educational institutions in the East and West Jaintia Hills Region.
The program was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) S. Kharbhih, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Kiang Nangbah Government College, the workshop drew participation from teaching faculty members representing various colleges within the region. Institutions such as Thomas Jones College, Shangpung College and Jaintia Eastern College, among others, actively engaged alongside Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai.
The program commenced with a warm welcome extended to distinguished guests, including Prof. Shailendra K. Singh, MOOCs Chairman, NEHU, and Dr. (Mrs.) Quendarisa Kharbuli, SWAYAM Co-Ordinator NEHU, Shillong, who graced the occasion as resource persons.
Dr. J.P. Sharma, IQAC Coordinator, KNGC, delivered an inspiring inaugural address, emphasizing the pivotal role of digitalization in enhancing the quality of education. He underscored the transformative potential of SWAYAM MOOCs in bridging the gap between traditional and digital learning environments, empowering students to explore diverse subjects and acquire valuable skills while fostering an engaging and interactive pedagogical approach.
The moderator, Dr. B. R. Suchiang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, shed light on the crucial role of MOOCs in education and the imperative for teacher awareness and adaptability to digital technologies. Despite technical challenges, he emphasized the educators’ responsibility in ensuring no student is left behind, advocating for pragmatic approaches to enhance classroom teaching.
The workshop provided a platform for collaborative discussion and strategy formulation to seamlessly integrate SWAYAM MOOCs courses into college curriculum. Prof. Singh and Dr. Kharbuli shared invaluable insights and best practices, ensuring a smooth and successful implementation of SWAYAM courses.
Prof. Singh commended Kiang Nangbah Government College for pioneering such an initiative in Meghalaya. He elaborated on the transformative vision of NEP 2020 and the three key mantras of MOOCs, emphasizing adoption, development, and promotion. Dr. Kharbuli highlighted the significance of digital initiatives and the benefits for both teachers and students, emphasizing the need for SWAYAM MOOCs and guiding participants through available courses and their relevance.
Engaging discussions and interactions ensued, with participants sharing perspectives and clarifying doubts. The workshop culminated with a vote of thanks by Dr. S. Nongkhlaw, Associate Professor in the Education Department, KNGC Jowai, and the distribution of participation certificates.
