Kiang Nangbah Government College raises awareness with Consumer Rights quiz
Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai hosted an exclusive quiz competition on March 19, 2024, tailored for members of the college’s BIS Standards Clubs. This event coincided with a vibrant celebration commemorating World Consumer Rights Day, originally slated for March 15, 2024. The purpose was to mark global consumer rights while engaging students in a stimulating competition. The Standards Clubs play a pivotal role in promoting awareness of national and international standards, thus contributing significantly to ethical business practices and consumer protection.
Jessica Dkhar, a teacher at the college, served as the event’s host. The session commenced with members of the Standards Clubs welcoming attendees with a rendition of the Hindi version of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Manak Geet. Dr. Blessing Roy Suchiang, Mentor of Standards Clubs at Kiang Nangbah Government College and the driving force behind the event, warmly welcomed everyone. He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and student engagement, emphasizing that the quiz not only celebrates students’ intellect and dedication but also highlights the importance of consumer rights in today’s global market.
Dr. Suchiang remarked that initiatives like these empower the next generation to advocate for ethical standards and responsible consumption. The event was further enriched by a Cultural Dance performance by college students, showcasing the vibrancy of Pnar community traditions, customs, and values.
Dr. Easter Meena Blah, the college’s Principal, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of World Consumer Rights Day in advocating for consumer welfare globally. She stressed the collective responsibility needed to ensure fairness, safety, and transparency in the marketplace. Dr. Blah underscored the importance of such events in raising awareness and promoting ethical consumption among students, empowering them to assert their rights.
Shubham Sanu, a BIS representative, provided an overview of the BIS, its functions, and activities. He also demonstrated the BIS Care App and BIS Quality Connect App to the students. The first session concluded with a vote of thanks from Rimiki Lada Nonghuloo.
After a short break, the quiz competition commenced. The winners were announced: Hamesainkupar Shadap and Wanshandame Dkhar secured the first prize, Because Syrti and Ngihunlang Shadap claimed the second prize, while Ebakordor Iakai and Fascilitia Myrchiang won the third prize. Laxmi Kumari and Sujatha Nath received the consolation prize.
