Kiang Nangbah Govt. College marks 58th Foundation Day with grand celebration
Kiang Nangbah Government College which is the lone Government College in Jaintia Hills region commemorated its 58th foundation day with a function held in the college auditorium on Tuesday.
Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion, Education Minister Rakkam said that education is not merely about academic achievement or securing government job, but it is about shaping individuals to understand the world better and contribute meaningfully to it, emphasizing its role as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Rakkam reiterated that the NEP 2020 is a visionary step, designed to prepare students for the challenges of 21st century.
The Education Minister emphasized that teachers are the true architecture of the society and are responsible for nurturing young minds with both knowledge and ethical values.
He stated that through the initiative like the Integrated Teacher Education programme (ITEP) course students will be well equipped.
Addressing the pressing issue of high dropout rate in the state, Rakkam called for collective responsibility from teachers, officials and community in encouraging students to return to school, stressing that education is the key to solving many global challenges not just in Meghalaya or India but across the world.
The Education Minister unveiled the ITEP plaque which began on the 12th October, 2023.
During the event, PhD degree holders Dr Sharailyn War Sohlang and Dr Saralyne Kharbhih were felicitated along with Botany topper Naina Limbu and Physics topper Mysonity Thoo.
Among those present were Lahkmen Rymbui, Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya; Wailadmiki Shylla, Local MLA of Jowai; and HM Shangpliang, Adviser to the Education Department, among others.
