Killing of fish banned in Lukha River
East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate, Ethelbert Kharmalki has imposed section 144 CrPC banning mass killing of fish and aquatic life in Lukha River.
The order has been issued in view of the report that inside Narpuh Wildlife sanctuary people are using explosive and electrocution for fishing in the Lukha River. Whereas, the same is illegal since they are using explosive being supplied from illegal source.
“I am of the opinion that such illegal acts not only violates the Indian Explosive Act 1884 and Explosive Rules 2008 but also endangering the aquatic lives in Lukha River as well as the fauna inhabiting in the fringe of Lukha River,” the order said.
The order prohibited Illegal blasting and electrocution of fishes at Lukha River.
Use of chemicals and biological substances which could harm and kill the fishes and aquatic life.
Use of mass killing mechanism and explosive at the River.
Any activity that could poison the river and bring danger to aquatic life and humans as well as the fauna inhabiting the fringe of Lukha River.
Any sport or competitive activities and festival that could endanger the fishes and aquatic life in the River.
The order come into force with immediate effect until further order.
