Kishan Lyngdoh named in 15 member NE Zone Duleep Trophy squad

Kishan Lyngdoh, a resident of Sohkymphor in East Jaintia Hills District, has been named in the 15-member squad for the NE Zone Duleep Trophy.

The announcement was made by Naba Bhattacharjee, Zonal Convener of the NE Zone, after the selection committee met on June 4 in Guwahati to carefully review the performance records and statistics of individual players from all six states in the senior category of BCCI’s domestic tournaments, primarily the Ranji Trophy and NECDC tournaments, during the 2022-23 season.

The tournament will be held from June 28 to July 28 and will feature teams from the six zones of the BCCI. The NE Zone was added to the tournament from the 2019-20 season.

This will be the second time Kishan Lyngdoh will be playing in the Duleep Trophy. He has also showcased excellent cricket skills and recently scored his first hundred in the Ranji Trophy. Along with Kishan, two other players from Meghalaya, Dippu Sangma (Meghalaya CA) and Akash Kumar Choudhary (Meghalaya CA), have also been selected for the tournament.

President of EJDCA, Rajiv Bareh, commends Kishan Lyngdoh, considering him an inspiration for young cricketers in the district. He urged aspiring cricketers to follow in his footsteps by practicing hard and focusing on cricket to achieve success.

A key decision made by the selection committee was to prioritize local players from all member states who had performed well in the previous season. This decision aims to promote and provide opportunities for local talents in the national arena and give them exposure to playing against top players from across the country. The support staff, including the coach, has also been chosen from local resources.

Here is the list of the 15 players and support staff announced by Naba Bhattacharjee in their capacity as the Zonal Convener, NE Zone. A preparatory camp of 10-12 days will be organized before the tournament, and the details regarding the venue and modalities will be announced shortly.
