KJDSTA ask govt to ensure Bill address teachers’ issues
The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) on Sunday demanded that the Meghalaya Rights to Public Services Bill, 2020 should also address issues related to the pending dues of the teachers.
The Bill was recently approved by the state Cabinet and is all set to be introduced in the upcoming autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, which will commence from November 5.
Lauding the decision of the MDA government in a statement here, KJDSTA president, Babu Kular Khongjirem said the Bill, if passed by the Assembly will ensure a timely response from the departments concerned on issues concerning public importance.
The concerned officials will be penalised if they failed to respond and fulfilled within a stipulated time bound.
Khongjirem also said the Bill is in fact, a good move by the MDA government to ensure the trust and confidence of the people on public service because in many occasions, the officials used the delay tactics thereby wasting time, energy and money of the public.
“However, if this MDA government is really concerned and really sincere about issues of public importance, they should first extend and make this Bill applicable to the long pending issues of teachers like the delayed disbursement of salary of the deficit school teachers which they usually released once in every three or fourth months,” the KJDSTA president asserted.
He said no further delay in clearing the new rate of DCRG of Rs10 lakhs at per with government servants and the release of remaining pending arrear of the revised pay, implement the retirement benefits schemes, to deficit school teachers without any further delay.
“This government should expedite with immediate effect these important issues to show the good examples and also as the first initiative towards the dedicated and valuable services of teachers towards education of the children before the Meghalaya Right to Public services Bill will be made effective,” he said.
Pointing out that the Christmas celebration is not far away, Khongjirem said that the association hopes that the present government will not cheat but give the rightful dues of the teaching community in the state.
