KJP Synod Mihngi welcomed govt’s decision not to re-open religious places
The Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian (KJP) Synod Mihngi has welcomed the recent decision of the state government not to re-open religious places or places of worship in order to contain the spread of COVID 19 in the state.
“The Synod therefore, urges all local churches within the Synod to cooperate with the government’s direction not to re-open their religious places/places of worship until further notification is published by government,” KJP Synod Mihngi senior executive secretary Rev Dr HCT Sumer said in a statement issued on Thursday.
The statement also requested all believers in churches to strictly adhere to the directions/ prohibitory measures circulated by government from time to time for maintenance of well being and good health to all.
Rev Sumer also informed that the working committee of the executive committee, KJP Synod Mihngi in its meeting held today has also expressed concern about the present situation regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic which has paralysed almost all walks of life not only in the state but in the nation and countries around the globe.
“Among those people who have been tested positive, some of them have recovered, others are still under medical treatment and sadly, some of them even lost their lives,” he said.
The Synod also expressed its gratitude towards the government for its tireless efforts in finding preventive measures to combat the menace and to contain the spread of this virus and to make the inhabitants in the state as a whole to have a sense of security in every sphere.
As a token of cooperation with the government, the Synod has also resolved to extend its support by contributing an amount of Rs 2 lakh towards the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
