KSU alleges BSF of violating protocols in Shella village
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Shella Unit has alleged the BSF jawans deployed in the village for violating the COVID-19 protocols issued by the government.
“It is very surprising to see that the BSF jawans are walking around the village market and violating COVID-19 protocols,” KSU Shella Unit president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said in a statement issued on Saturday.
Sanmiet said the state is witnessing a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases and most of those infected are from BSF.
“What is more worrying is the fact that the jawans who are being deployed in Shella and adjoining areas are those coming from the camps which are affected by COVID-19. We also do not know who among these personnel may be carriers of the disease,” he said.
According to him, the BSF jawans should refrain from violating protocols by moving around especially in public places to ensure there is no spread in the village.
“We also urge the state government to take note of the incident and ensure that villagers at the border do not become victims of the pandemic,” Sanmiet said.
It may be mentioned here that the state government had declared the BSF headquarters at Umpling as a ‘containment area’ after a total of 159 BSF jawans were tested positive for COVID-19.
