KSU asks Govt to intervene into alleged encroachment at Muktapur village
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) War Jaintia Circle on Friday dismantled the fence illegally erected by Bangladeshis at Muktapur village along the Indo-Bangla border in West Jaintia Hills District.
General secretary of the Union Lurman Talang informed that they had immediately went to Muktapur village after information was received that the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) had disallowed construction of a football ground side drain and the illegal encroachment of Bangladeshis by erecting fences within its jurisdiction.
“On reaching, we immediately dismantle all such fences and rice crop being planted,” he said.
Talang also expressed concern over the inaction of the Amlarem Sub-Divisional Officer on a complaint submitted by the village leaders on the matter. He also alleged that the BSF are also asking the villagers to take up construction works under MNREGA during night time.
According to him, the BSF most of the time are just mere spectators when BGB prevent villagers of Muktapur from working.
“We condemned and we demand the state government to immediately address the problems faced by the villagers within one week failing which we will be compelled to again go to the village and the government should take full responsibility of the consequences that may arise,” Talang said.
