KSU asks govt to resolve power crisis ahead of board exams
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has asked the state government to immediately resolve the current load shedding problem faced in the state.
In a letter to the Power Minister James K Sangma on Monday, the KSU Education Cell has expressed its concern over the continuation of load shedding in the state which has disrupted the normal day to day life.
Reminding the government that many students would be appearing in their boards, degree and other examinations which will be conducted by various institutes and universities in the coming days, the union said if the power cuts/ load shedding prevails, it is going to interrupt greatly in their academic performances.
It added, moreover, due to this pandemic many institutes and universities have resorted to online and blended mode of examinations and students are ought to appear in their examinations and submit their assignments, projects etc via online mode and due to these power cuts it will prove to be extremely difficult for students to finish off their work in due time.
“Thus, in this regard the Union would humbly like to request you to resolve the matter at the earliest as it is of utmost importance looking at the urgency where students would be appearing in their respective examinations and also that it doesn’t disrupt their academic performances,” the KSU stated in the letter.
Timmy Lyngdoh says
The perennial power crisis cannot be solved overnight. It is a result of years of neglect of power sector by previous governments. Present government is no different. NGOs and other stake holders also have played their part in this big mess.
So, what is the solution? In my opinion, the state should either generate its own power or purchase the power from the power generating companies.
The 2nd solution isn’t viable, because the money to pay the power generating companies doesn’t grow on trees. This is the sole reason of load shedding.
Generating our own power and purchase whatever is shortfall, is perhaps the only sustainable solution in front of us. This will take time. But, somewhere we have to start.
Are the KSUs, JSUs, Intellectuals listening?
