KSU asks NEHU to end ongoing stalemate over NEP implementation
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday asked the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to address the problems and concerns of the teachers and colleges in regards to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 so that student’s community does not suffer due to the tussle between different stakeholders.
“The Union would like to urge the University to also take certain steps and measures to solve the ongoing stalemate,” KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said in a memorandum to the NEHU VC.
“Thus, the Union would humbly like to urge the University to see to it that the implementation of NEP 2020 does not affect the student’s community and their academic curriculum as a whole and to ensure that there is cooperation among the different stakeholders including the teaching staffs who play an important and pivotal role in ensuring the success of the students,” he added.
Marngar said the Union is concerned over the implementation of the NEP, 2020 which has sought various opposition from different stakeholders of the society and has left the student community as a whole in jeopardy and disarray.
Further, he said that the inability from the part of the administration of the University to bring about clear guidelines and rules as to the proper implementation of the NEP 2020 has brought about ambiguity and dissatisfaction among the teachers of various colleges in the state of Meghalaya.
“That, improper and incomplete syllabus and materials available for the teachers to carry forward with the NEP 2020 will leave both the students and teachers wary of the future outcome of the courses that the students have opted for and for the teachers to prepare the students,” he said.
The KSU chief also said that with the implementation of NEP 2020, different courses such as Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs), Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC) and others shall be introduced and there are no specific guidelines on the eligibility criteria of the teachers to teach these courses as well as the recruitment of these teachers by the College’s administration. Moreover, with the time constraint, colleges are met with utmost difficulty to meet such demand.
“With the implementation of the NEP 2020, the Union is of the opinion that there maybe an increment in the fees structures that will be procured from the students in the form of affiliation fees and examination. This in turn may affect the students coming from economically weaker section,” he said while adding that there is no clarity in regard to the maintenance of the Academic Bank Credit (ABC) as to who will be the appropriate authority in handling the same whether it will be from the Ministry of Education or the University.
