KSU asks NEHU to give preference to local indigenous candidate while filling up vacant posts
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday reiterated its demand that the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) should give first preferences to local indigenous tribals of Meghalaya for any post(s) that is vacant in the University.
In its memorandum to the NEHU vice chancellor Prof P Shukla, KSU said, “The Union would like to reiterate its demand that preferences should be given to the local indigenous tribals of Meghalaya for any post(s) that is vacant.”
The KSU has also pointed out the various anomalies that have occurred in the recent recruitment process for various posts that have been advertised by the University.
It said that various post(s) for Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and others that had been advertised and the applicants for such post(s) has submitted their application through the portal nehunt.samrath.edu.in
The application which has been rejected by the Screening Committee has failed to provide any remarks or reasonable grounds for the rejection of the same.
“There are applicants whose application fulfills the criteria of the UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staffs in University and Colleges and measures for maintaining the standards in higher education, 2018 but their application was rejected without any valid reason. Upon queries by the applicants and on filing of their representation for the same, the University has failed to provide any clarification,” the memorandum said.
The KSU also stated that there are also applicants whose applications have been selected and they are ought to appear before the Screening Committee but the same was never communicated to them. Further, there are also vacant statutory posts in the University such as for the post of Registrar, Finance Officer, etc, which have been lying vacant for a prolonged period of time and this has caused a lapse in the smooth functioning of the University.
“Thus, the Union would humbly like to state that such pressing matters are to be urgently addressed and dwell upon as it is likely to affect the growth of the University and simultaneously the progress of the students as a whole,” it added.
